This project began by documentation of the unloved places which are experienced by everyone on a daily basis- bus stops, stairwells, street corners etc. And, though essential to daily life, I found that these places do not add to Ones day, they detract. So, I set about finding a way to use my research into culture jamming and activist art to change these place’s value in peoples lives and to make them a positive experience. My solution was to make a series of interactive textile pieces designed for public space. When one of these pieces is encountered by the public in a dingy side street or bus stop, a person can pull out a strip of fabric to find words of positivity and empowerment which they can then keep with them in their pocket or wallet , tied around their wrist or as their new bookmark to remind them of something good in the world.
